Fall 2025

Y337 Latin American Politics

Section 29860

This course offers a thematic introduction to contemporary Latin American Politics useful for both advanced study and future professional activities in this region.  This introduction includes historical and contemporary political problems, including recent effects of market reforms and prospects for democratic consolidation.  Enrolled students will also learn a basic toolset from comparative politics to critically examine political developments and current policy debates across the region.

Y346 Politics in the Developing World

Section 32270

This class examines one of the central questions of social science: why are some countries prosperous while others struggle with poverty?

Students will learn a variety of competing explanations to answer that question with a combination of comparative politics and political economy.


Spring 2026

Y300 Computational Models of Politics

Section TBA

This is a new course without prerequisites that teaches mathematical modeling and computing programming skills, with a focus on agent-based models.

Y657 Political Economy of Development

Section TBA

This is a PhD-level comparative politics seminar open to graduate students interested in the interplay of politics and economics in developing countries.

Honors thesis projects

I can supervise projects that explore political economy, international development, or Latin American politics as part of the yearlong Y499 Honors Colloquium sequence.
